AUTUMN TERM 2008
Earlybirds is a pre-school opportunity open to all children from the term in which they are three until they start school.
The Earlybirds team have welcomed the new children this term and they have all settled in very quickly. The older children have also settled back into the routines of the setting and have been good role models to the new children.
The staff have been getting to know the children’s interests and using these to plan the activities. Dinosaurs have been a popular choice so some children have been practising how to use scissors by cutting out dinosaur shapes and cutting round dinosaur faces to make masks. We also encouraged lots of singing and physical movement by learning the action song, ‘one dinosaur came out to play’
Other activities of interest have been to do with imitating Mum or Dad. Some children have been looking after ‘babies’, taking them for walks, making the dinner, putting them in car seats to take them to the shops, washing them and putting them to bed.
Sand and water play is always very popular and lots of children have been making the staff food and cups of tea using their imaginations to introduce sand in all different forms of food. The emphasis at Earlybirds is to have fun while they are learning through play.
In the coming weeks we have planned a sponsored obstacle course for the children to take part in and hope to visit the nearby forest for some outdoor fun. As Christmas approaches we will be helping the children to understand the story of Christmas by taking part in a simple nativity play with songs.
